Advancing Education: Asian Medical Institute Embraces Innovative Teaching with OSCE Seminar

On April 27, 2023, the Asian Medical Institute hosted a pivotal seminar, “Assessing the practical skills of students using the OSCE method,” in the conference hall, uniting the teaching staff from clinical departments. Spearheaded by the Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Work, Professor T.S. Buylashev, the seminar aimed to elevate the quality of education and usher in innovative methods for evaluating clinical skills. Professor Buylashev emphasized the imperative role of developing professional competencies among future specialists, underscoring the necessity for the active incorporation of cutting-edge teaching technologies.

The OSCE coordinator, Head of the Department of Therapeutic and Specialized Disciplines, Associate Professor Kulambaev B.B., delved into the global history of OSCE implementation in specialist training, shedding light on the initial stages of its pilot integration at AZMI. The seminar unfolded with enlightening presentations: Assistant of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Akmatov A.M., explored the assessment of students’ communication skills, while Assistant of the Department of Surgical Disciplines, Abirov I.K., detailed the formation and evaluation of surgical skills. Specialist in the development of clinical skills of students, Turdunalieva R.S., shared insights into the experience of Clinical Skills Development Centers, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). This seminar not only showcased the institute’s commitment to embracing modern pedagogical techniques but also empowered educators with the tools to shape the future of medical education at AZMI.
